Counseling

In May 2009, I graduated with a Masters degree from New York
University (Steinhardt School) in Counseling for Mental Health and
Wellness.  In completing this two-year program, the clinical work that
follow it, and the State Licensed Mental Health Counselors exam, I will
qualify as a New York State board certified psychotherapist.

I feel that my mental health counselor training is a critical element in my
ability to help clients cope with their feelings and transform the negative
patterns of their minds into constructive ones by developing non-
judgmental self-awareness.  I believe it is essential to have a broad
knowledge base of psychological theory and a rigorous clinical training in
counseling techniques.  I am developing psychotherapeutic dialogue skills
in order to provide a truly holistic mental health service to my clients.
Upon completing a degree in mental health counseling, I will be able to
employ a wide spectrum of methods adaptable to suit my clients’ distinct
needs.

Although many know that yoga can improve mental wellness, it
originates from an era and a culture in which the need to verbalize
personal experience and to discuss emotional struggle was virtually
absent.  However, these needs are very common in our culture now.
With the popularization of yoga in the West, more work is needed in
adapting yogic wisdom to the modern Western mind especially in the
area of mental health. This is my focus.
